Dr. Floyd Morris

Dr. Floyd Morris, Director of the Centre for Disability Studies at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, will represent the interests of persons with disabilities on the global stage for the next four years. His successful election to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was confirmed on Monday, November 30, 2020, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The CRPD is an international body of experts responsible for monitoring the implementation of the rights outlined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2007). In the election, 180 UN members selected nine new members from a pool of 29 candidates. Dr. Morris, who received strong support and full endorsement from the 15-nation CARICOM group, was widely celebrated for his victory.
